North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program RiderCourses:
Thank
you for your interest in the ABATE of North Dakota sponsored Motorcycle
Safety Program. The following will give you some information about what
courses we are offering and requirements.
All
participants must be at least 14 years of age and have parental
signature. For the students in the 14-16 year old age group, NDDOT
specifies that they cannot take a motorcycle permit test without having
participated in the Motorcycle Safety course.
We try to
coordinate a group of at least 8 people with a maximum of 24 for each
classroom. For the range class a minimum 6 students are required before
the range skills portion of the class can be completed.
All
classes are subject to change or cancel due to inclement weather (snow,
heavy rains, lightning or extremely high winds). Safety is our foremost
concern so if we have to reschedule a class we will attempt to contact
you at the phone number you provide.
There are 2 class types:
1. Basic RiderCourse
The
BRC class is ideal for beginners. You do not need to have your permit
or license for this class. The class is about 18 hours in length with 5
hours spent in the class and the remainder on the range. The class
portion is completed before the range portion. The range has to be
completed within 30 days of the class room or you will not receive a
course completion card for the class. The registration fee for the
class is $100.00 (non-refundable). Please note also, that if you are not
present at roll call, you will forfeit your seat in the class and
registration fee.
2. Experienced RiderCourse
The
ERC is for experienced licensed riders and provides them with skills to
heighten their awareness and skill levels. This class is about 4.5
hours and the students must have a motorcycle license and proof of
insurance. Bikes will also be T-Clocked prior to class start. The
registration fee for the class is $50.00 (non-refundable). Please note
also, that if you are not present at roll call, you will forfeit your
seat in the class and registration fee.
Courses
include classroom and on-cycle training, with Motorcycle Safety
Foundation certified instructors. Courses are offered from May through
September (weather permitting); and for your convenience, at a variety
of times and days throughout the week. Contact us for specific course information in your area.
To
complete both courses you must attend and participate in all sessions
and you must pass a written and riding exam to receive a course
completion card.
The items needed for the motorcycle-riding portion of the class are:
